Quantum Internet Alliance (QIA) has launched on 14 April 2025 its third round of QIA Building for One Europe Internship Programme, an initiative that aims to encourage cross-institutional knowledge sharing and help in building a quantum internet-ready workforce across all EU27 Member States.
This year’s round features nine internship opportunities at QIA sites in seven countries across Europe: Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal and Spain. Offered by academic institutions and a startup, the programmes offer hands-on experience in quantum technologies, including nanophotonics, quantum communication, computing and sensing. Successful interns will have a chance to engage in experimental and theoretical work across materials science, device fabrication, protocol development and system control.
This annual initiative offers to support internship programmes of students and young professionals in countries currently not involved in QIA. Through funding, mentorship, and structured programmes, QIA is not only providing opportunities but also investing in a stronger and more interconnected Europe, where talents from all EU27 Member States can thrive.
It is open to master students, PhD candidates, postdoc researchers or young professional studying or working at a university, research institution or a company in one of the eligible countries*. Ideal candidates are those with a strong interest in physics, engineering, or computing and quantum science.
For this year, there are five internship grants offered, with each grant offering a maximum of 5,000 EUR to cover for travel, accommodation and other expenses of the successful intern.
Participating institutions are: Luxembourg Institute of Technology, Portuguese Quantum Institute, Sorbonne University, Technical University of Dresden, Technical University of Valencia, University of Innsbruck, University of Parma, University of Stuttgart and Veriqloud.
*List of eligible countries: Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden
QIA is a consortium of ~42 world-leading institutions working together to build a global Quantum Internet made in Europe. By combining QIA’s diverse interdisciplinary team, we will establish an innovative European platform for Quantum Internet development and build a full-stack prototype network that has the potential to become the first of its kind in the world.
Led by QuTech, QIA consists of academic institutions, telecom operators, system integrators and quantum technology start-ups across nine European countries. It is currently co-funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under grant number 101102140.
