The quantum computer is the next computing revolution. Atos, the European leader in supercomputing and Big Data, is one of the main players worldwide. Atos' quantum strategy includes the QLM (Quantum Learning Machine), which enables the behavior of quantum circuits to be finely emulated, taking into account topology, hardware technology, etc. This classical simulation of quantum computations makes it possible to develop and test quantum programs in order to quantify their concrete applicability. However, the energy aspect is currently not taken into account by QLM. The key research role of this position is to study the energy aspects of quantum solutions in order to make the best choices in terms of quantum technologies, circuit topologies, coupling with supercomputers, etc. The entire spectrum will be covered by all the contributors, but this position will be the link between the hardware and the algorithmic parts. The goal is to advance as much as possible in the integration of this energy aspect into the QLM. In addition to providing the result of the simulation of a quantum circuit, the overall energy consumption could be provided as a benchmark metric. A description of the problem is given in this paper by Alexia AUFFEVES (https://journals.aps.org/prxquantum/pdf/10.1103/PRXQuantum.3.020101). For this new position, intensive collaboration with the local research community in Quantum Computing is expected. This position will be located in Singapore with an ideal start date in November 2022.
Profile
The candidate should have a Master 2 level and ideally have:
Programming skills: python (mastery), C++ (knowledge), AQASM (optional)
A solid foundation in quantum physics. Experience in quantum computing will be a strong plus
An appetite for cross-disciplinary work (computer science, theoretical and experimental quantum physics)
The ability to work both independently and in synergy with partners in international teams.
