Research Engineer – Quantum Sensing at DTU Physics

The section of Quantum Physics and Information Technology and Centre for Macroscopic Quantum States (bigQ) are one of Denmark’s leading research groups for the research and development of quantum technology. As part of an innovation project funded by Novo Nordisk Fond, we are seeking a research engineer to work on a 1-year project aimed at using novel diamond-based quantum sensor technology for applications in biotechnology. The goal of the project is to deliver a prototype, handheld device for recording of biomagnetic or bioacoustic signals, with the longer-term goal of further developing this into a commercial medical device and spinoff company.

The job

 

Your primary responsibility will be the development and construction of the prototype sensing device. This will involve:

 

  • Design/selection of optical components, including laser optics
  • Mechanical design and fabrication, including 3D printing
  • Design and use of electronics
  • Some programming and instrument control

Our expectations of you


We are looking for a candidate with experience in:

  • Building prototype experimental or test apparatus
  • Basic electronics, primarily analog signals in the kHz range
  • Data acquisition and signal processing, filtering and timeseries analysis
  • Any of Python, Matlab or Labview
  • Computer-aided modelling and design e.g., Autocad or Solidworks
  • Working independently

 

The ideal candidate should have flexibility and eagerness to learn. Although an interest is desirable, any necessary training in quantum technology will be given.
