Quantum Internet: Postdoc on cold-atom quantum memomory
Laboratoire Kastler Brossel - Sorbonne Université
Applicants are invited for postdoctoral positions in experimental quantum optics and quantum information at Laboratoire Kastler Brossel (LKB) in Paris, France, in the Quantum Networks team led by Julien Laurat and Alban Urvoy. LKB is jointly run by Sorbonne Université, École Normale Supérieure, Collège de France and CNRS. The team works on three different projects towards the realization of future networks where quantum information will be distributed and processed.
The present position concerns the development of quantum repeater segments. The backbone of the project is a cold-atom based quantum memory with a record 90% efficiency [1,2], which makes it a building block for quantum repeaters in a future quantum network. Leveraging on this technology, the successful candidate will develop such a high-performance quantum memory and deploy a quantum repeater segment connecting two such memories. A strong focus will be on the development of appropriate photonic links on a local fibered network, as well as protocols supporting this implementation. This effort is part of the European Flagship “Quantum Internet Alliance” [3] and the French national initiative on Quantum testbeds. The successful applicant will play a key role in these cutting-edge and stimulating consortia.
Candidates must hold an internationally recognized PhD degree or equivalent in a field related to experimental quantum physics. The dynamic and highly-motivated candidate should have a track record of experimental research in either quantum optics, quantum information or atomic physics. The positions are open as soon as possible.
