Post-doctoral position in quantum emitters and quantum technologies with two-dimensional materials

Institut de Ciències Fotòniques

Apply for this job

ICFO is offering a postdoctoral position to a well-qualified, highly motivated and dynamic young scientist who wishes to enhance his/her scientific career in a friendly and stimulating environment. The successful candidate will be joining the Quantum Nano-Optoelectronics group led by Prof. Dr. Frank Koppens. This project is a step forward in the realization of on-chip quantum devices for quantum integrated photonic circuits to facilitate the development of secure quantum communication protocols, the scaling up of quantum computers and simulators, and the invention of novel quantum sensing applications. Very exciting quantum optical properties of materials that are only one atom thick have been discovered only during the last few years. These so-called two-dimensional materials showed, surprisingly, emission of light photon-by-photon, instead of a continuous photon stream. This project aims to generate single photon sources in 2D materials in a controllable manner. Several approaches will be investigated, including the shaping and patterning of the materials. PRTR-Financiado por el MCIN con fondos de la Unión Europea-NextGenerationEU(PRTR-C17.I1) y por la Generalitat de Catalunya. Candidates must hold an internationally-recognized Ph.D.-equivalent degree (or evidence of its completion in the nearest future) preferably in Physics. The candidate should have a proven track record of quantum optics and/or materials. ICFO is an equal opportunity employer. Candidates are selected exclusively on merit and potential on the basis of submitted application material. No restrictions related to disabilities, citizenship or gender apply to ICFO positions. ICFO abides by the principles of openness, efficiency, transparency, supportiveness, and international comparability as stated in the European Charter for Researchers and the European Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. Salary is offered according to the institutional salary scales. The contract is offered for periods of 1 year, renewable for a total of up to 2 years. Additionally, a family allowance is also available on request and after corresponding approval for people with family charges in the terms described in the corresponding policy.

How to apply

Suitable candidates are requested to submit: Presentation letter with a declaration of interest, - Curriculum Vitae, including contact details, - The contact e-mail of two potential referees. - Candidates will be assessed as they apply and the call will remain open until the suitable candidate is identified. Candidates may contact jobs@icfo.eu for formal enquiries regarding the application, as well as address scientific enquiries to Frank.Koppens@icfo.eu.
