Quantum computing and quantum-inspired methods are emerging as promising approaches for tackling computational challenges in the life sciences.
The 21st International Conference on Computational Intelligence Methods for Bioinformatics and Biostatistics (CIBB 2026), which will take place at Sapienza University of Rome, Italy (2–4 September 2026), will host a special session titled “Quantum Artificial Intelligence for Bioinformatics and Biostatistics: Theory, Algorithms, and Applications.”
The session aims to bring together researchers working at the intersection of quantum computing, artificial intelligence, and computational biology. Topics include quantum and quantum-inspired algorithms for sequence and phylogenetic analysis, graph-based learning and quantum kernels, biomolecular structure modeling, clustering and classification of omics data, and combinatorial optimization problems arising in molecular design and systems biology.
Particular attention will be given to hybrid quantum–classical workflows and implementations compatible with NISQ devices, including noise-resilient algorithms, resource-aware designs, and benchmarking against state-of-the-art classical approaches.
The goal of the session is to foster dialogue between quantum computing researchers and bioinformatics practitioners, identifying realistic opportunities and challenges for quantum technologies in computational life sciences.
