Mobile World Congress 2019

  • The Quantum Flagship will have a devoted space in the NEXTech Hall 8.0M18 of the MWC2019.
  • Visitors to the Quantum Flagship space will be able to learn more about the 2nd quantum revolution and those quantum technologies that have emerged, focusing particularly on how current communication technologies will be impacted by quantum physics.
  • Supported by the European Commission, the flagship will have a duration of 10 years and a budget of at least EUR 1 billion.

From 25-28 Feb, Barcelona will host once more the Mobile World Congress (MWC19). Already in its 9th edition, this year MWC19 will make the official presentation of the Quantum Flagship, which intends to bring to one of the largest mobile events in the world a grasp of quantum technologies that aim to radically improve, among others, the field of  telecommunications.

With a life span of 10 years, a budget of at least EUR 1 billion and supported by the European Commission, the Quantum Flagship was launched in October of 2018 as one of the most ambitious research projects funded by the European Commission. The Quantum Flagship’s main goal is to take and transfer the research from the lab to the market into commercial applications that will help create the next generation of disruptive technologies, searching to position Europe as a worldwide knowledge-based industrial and technological leader in this innovative field.

In the NexTech Hall 8.0M18 of the MWC19, the Quantum Flagship will have a singular space devoted to quantum technologies, giving visitors an overview of the flagship, its areas of research, and its roadmap for the next 10 years. In particular, it will focus on the objectives expected to achieve in the area of quantum communications, including a prototype of a quantum random number generator chip provided by the company Quside, a partner of the flagship.

About the Quantum Flagship

The Quantum Flagship was launched in 2018 as one of the largest and most ambitious research initiatives of the European Union. With a budget of at least €1 billion and a duration of 10 years, the flagship brings together research institutions, academia, industry, enterprises, and policy makers, in a joint and collaborative initiative on an unprecedented scale. The main objective of the Flagship is to consolidate and expand European scientific leadership and excellence in this research area as well as to transfer quantum physics research from the lab to the market by means of commercial applications and disruptive technologies. With over 5000 researchers from academia and industry involved in this initiative throughout its lifetime, it aims to create the next generation of disruptive technologies that will impact Europe’s society, placing the region as a worldwide knowledge-based industry and technological leader in this field.
