Quantum Brilliance GmbH

Apply for this job

About us Quantum Brilliance is the world leader in room-temperature quantum computing using synthetic diamonds. Our unique vision is to make quantum computing available as an everyday technology, from data centres to remote and mobile systems like autonomous robots and satellites. In contrast to quantum computers that fill a room, we are developing quantum accelerators with more compute power than a classical supercomputer but a form-factor smaller than a lunchbox. Founded in 2019 by leaders in diamond quantum science from the Australian National University, we are an Australian-German full-stack quantum computing company with HQs in Canberra and Stuttgart and additional locations across Australia and southern Germany. We are working with global technology leaders to develop quantum computing applications, integrate quantum with high-performance computing, solve materials science challenges and develop ultra-precise semiconductor manufacturing and control techniques. We are backed by leading venture-capital funds and major research and technology institutes. Since our teams in Australia and Germany have been experiencing accelerated growth, we are creating a system architecture division, of which you will be the founding member, you’ll be interfacing with external customers and our talented R&D teams locally in Germany, in Australia and across the globe. Mission The System Architect is an essential player in ensuring Quantum Brilliance’s quantum computing solutions develop into a unified system that meets the needs and demands of our internal and external customers. You will be responsible for overseeing and curating the system and sub-system architecture for our unique quantum accelerators. This will include working with our teams of specialised software and hardware engineers to ensure the successful architecting of the sub-systems, as well as playing a key role in integrating the completed systems into our customers’ environments. We are looking for an experienced System Architect to kick-off our System Architecture team. Job Summary  Your roles and responsibilities will include: Participating in the planning, definition and high-level design of Quantum Brilliance’s quantum computer technology; Defining sub-systems and their interfaces, allocating responsibilities to sub-systems, understanding solution deployment, and communicating requirements for interactions with solution context; Evaluating the influence of subsystem design progress on the overall system design for our product generation planning; Operating within an economic framework when analysing the impact of design decisions; Establishing critical NFRs for the solution and participating in the definition of others; Working closely with the quantum computing software and hardware R&D teams, our internal project and program management teams and our customer teams in an agile environment; Communicating with internal and external stakeholders to gain a solid understanding of their unique needs and using these to derive the requirements and test specifications at both system and subsystem level; Working with portfolio stakeholders, notably the CSO, to develop, analyse, split, and realise the implementation of R&D programs; Participating in Program Planning and Pre- and Post-PI Planning, System and Solution Demos, and Inspect and Adapt (I&A) events. About You  Required: A degree in computer science, engineering, physics, mathematics or similar; 5-10 years engineering work experience in high-tech industries, of which at least 3 years in system design or system architecture; Experience with system development in complex mixed software/hardware environments; A good understanding of the business and economic consequences of design decisions; Good leadership skills; Strong customer centric approach; Being a team player with good analytical thinking skills and able to work independently; Excellent communications skills in English (German is a plus, but not a requirement). Desirable: Experience in technical discussions with customers and technical support in the sales process; Exposure to one or some of HPC, complex embedded systems, requirements engineering, and/or experience or understanding of the structure/programming of universal quantum computers; Experience being responsible for test planning, system validation and the creation of documentation accompanying development; Knowledge of formalisms such as SysML or UML, open-source tools such as Capella and methodologies such as model-based system development. Why Quantum Brilliance? At Quantum Brilliance, you’ll join a team of experts working to create massive, transformative impact globally. You’ll join a team of problem-solvers, who are curious and driven to understand and master new things. We pride ourselves on a collaborative environment, where we learn from the unique expertise that each person brings, and support the growth of each team member. Quantum Brilliance’s vision to enable mass deployment of quantum accelerators will propel industries to harness edge computing applications and next-generation supercomputers. Quantum Brilliance’s international partnerships extend into North America, Europe, and the Asia Pacific, working with governments, supercomputing centres, research organisations and industry leaders. If the above seems well aligned and you are perhaps looking for an opportunity to progress your career into a dynamic and fast-moving startup/scaleup venture, we are keen to hear from you! We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive work environment; hence we are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, colour, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status. We are aware that some individuals tend to only apply for jobs when they meet 100% of the criteria. If you think you have what it takes, but don't necessarily meet every single point on the job description, please still get in touch. We'd love to have a chat and see if you could be a great fit!
