The European Commission has launched a public consultation to collect input on the forthcoming EU Quantum Act. All relevant stakeholders – from quantum technology experts and start-ups to universities and national authorities – are invited to have their say by 26 November.
The EU Quantum Act should deliver the key priorities of the Quantum Europe Strategy, which was published this summer. Expected to be launched in 2026, the legislation will aim to tackle three ‘structural problems’:
The European Commission goes into more detail in a downloadable document accompanying the consultation. It additionally states that the Quantum Act initiative “complements existing instruments such as the Chips Act, IRIS² (EuroQCI) and the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking, and contributes to strengthening the EU’s economic security, open strategic autonomy and technological and industrial sovereignty in quantum technologies.”
The call invites Member State authorities, EU agencies, EuroHPC/EuroQCI infrastructure operators, industry, including small and medium-sized enterprises, start-ups, research organisations and universities, as well as standardisation bodies, and cybersecurity, defence and quantum experts to contribute via the Have Your Say Portal.
