QuantERA, the largest European network for funding quantum technology (QT) research, fosters excellence through coordinated efforts, offering a platform for scientists and innovators to collaborate.
In the QuantERA Call 2023, 101 proposals were submitted, and 24 projects were selected for funding. These projects, involving 122 research teams from 23 countries, represent a total investment of €29 million, with an average project budget of €1.2 million. The selected projects commenced in Spring 2024 and will run until Summer 2027.
The QuantERA Project Catalogue: Call 2023 has now been published, providing a comprehensive overview of the funded projects and important data on factors like member state distribution, inclusion of widening countries, and gender balance.
The call was split into the two categories ‘Applied Quantum Science’ (9 projects funded) and ‘Quantum Phenomena and Resources’ (15 projects). The projects cover all areas of QT such as communication, metrology and simulation.
QuantERA addresses the increasing need for collaborative funding in QT research. As Europe's largest network for QT research funding, QuantERA aims to enhance research excellence through coordinated transnational calls, fostering international cooperation, and influencing public policy. It supports outstanding QT ideas, promotes gender balance, and includes Widening Countries to broaden research excellence. With a €26 million budget, including €15 million from the EU, QuantERA launched a co-funded call in 2023, complementing the European Quantum Flagship activities and addressing gender imbalances. It will also strengthen dialogue with policymakers, stimulate networking, and continue mapping QT policies in Europe.
