Position Overview

We are seeking a talented Senior Quantum Engineer to join our growing team and contribute to groundbreaking developments in quantum communications. You will lead our state-of-the-art quantum photonic laboratory, developing and implementing cutting-edge quantum communication systems. The role involves national and international travels to the UK, USA, and various European locations for collaborations and project work.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and optimize quantum optical setups for communication applications
  • Direct purchases of the equipment
  • Develop and maintain control systems for quantum optical experiments
  • Program and interface with embedded systems for real-time control and data acquisition
  • Conduct experimental measurements and analyze datasets
  • Document technical processes and experimental results
  • Contribute to the development of new quantum communication protocols and systems
  • Collaborate on international R&D projects, produce results, contribute to technical reporting and publications
  • Manage and mentor younger employees to achieve team goals
  • Travel internationally to engage with partners and attend technical meetings

 

Required Qualifications

  • Master's or, preferably, Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical/Electronics Engineering or related field
  • Strong background in experimental quantum optics
  • Hands-on experience with optical laboratory equipment (lasers, single-photon detectors, integrated and fiber optics)
  • Proficiency in electronics and signal processing
  • Programming experience with embedded systems
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Authorization to work in Italy
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of quantum communications and quantum cryptography
  • Experience with FPGA programming
  • Background in fiber optic communications
  • Previous experience in an innovative SME / startup / corporate R&D
