The Horizon Europe 2026-27 Work Programme has been published and includes exciting new calls for the Quantum Flagship and beyond. There is a new kind of 'grand challenge' call, and topics in quantum sensing, photonic quantum computing and standards are covered.
On 11th December the European Commission published the Work Programme for Horizon Europe for the next two years, 2026-2027. Within the €14bil of funding, there is continued investment in the Quantum Flagship, which is housed under 'Cluster 4: Digital, Industry and Space'.
The following calls have been announced with preliminary deadline dates of 15th April 2026:
Grand Challenge on Quantum Sensors for Inertial Navigation
Particularly interesting is the Grand Challenge on Quantum Sensors for Inertial Navigation, a new type of two-phase call designed to help Europe's start-ups, as seen recently in the Quantum Grand Challenge for Quantum Computing. Meanwhile, under the SPACE section of the Work Programme, a €29mil call on Quantum Space Gravimetry was announced for 2027.
The European Commission will host Horizon Europe Info Days on 29th and 30th January giving more details on the calls.
