About Us Quantum Brilliance is the world pioneer in room-temperature quantum computing using synthetic diamonds. Our unique vision is to make quantum computing available as an everyday technology, from data centers to remote and mobile systems like autonomous robots and satellites. In contrast to quantum computers that fill a room, we are developing quantum accelerators with more computing power than a classical supercomputer but a form factor smaller than a lunchbox. Founded in 2019 by experts in diamond quantum science from the Australian National University, we are a full-stack quantum computing start-up. An Australia-German company, our HQs are in Canberra and Stuttgart, with additional locations across Australia and southern Germany. We are working with global technology innovators to develop quantum computing applications, integrate quantum with high-performance computing, solve materials science problems and develop ultra-precise semiconductor manufacturing and control techniques. We are backed by eminent venture capital funds and major research and technology institutes. The Mission The successful candidate is an experimental quantum physicist, material scientist, or electrical engineer with a strong inclination toward quantum computation. The candidate will be a key member of a world-class team and play a central role in designing and engineering future generations of quantum computer control systems. About the Role Responsibilities include: Work as a part of a team of quantum researchers and engineers to design, develop, characterize, and test control, initialization, and read-out methods (optimal, robust, etc.) for quantum devices Craft experiments based on NV centers in diamonds, contribute to our growth targets by scaling the number of qubits, making the design ready for production, testing new qubit architectures, and exploring new control and read-out technologies Develop and optimize control software and instrumentation tools to accelerate our R&D efforts, e.g., confocal and widefield microscopes, electronics boards, or custom-built lasers Supporting the growth ambitions of Quantum Brilliance by helping others to gain technical expertise About You Ideally an experimental quantum physicist, material scientist, or electrical engineer with a strong interest in quantum computing. You are comfortable in programming with hardware systems. You enjoy learning new fields and concepts, can quickly understand higher-level problems and architect clean and concise solutions. Essential skills and experience: PhD degree in experimental quantum physics or material science, electrical engineering, or equivalent field 3-5 years of commercial software engineering experience (can include PhD work) on quantum systems e.g., spin systems, qubit interactions Experience integrating and customizing quantum hardware with embedded OS Programming experience in Python and C++, working with hardware systems Knowledge of electronics including analog, digital and mixed-signal circuits; experience with schematic and PCB design using CAD tools. Ability to communicate and collaborate with a diverse team of experimental physicists, hardware, and embedded software engineers Strong English language skills, good communicator and team player Desired skills and experience that will help you excel: Postdoc experience in the relevant field of Experimental Quantum Physics or Material Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent field, with a focus on quantum technology Knowledge of quantum computing and quantum optics. Familiarity with NV centers in diamond is a strong plus Defining and solving deep technical problems Ability to set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to rapidly changing needs An analytical mind and ability to problem-solve using experimentation, logic, and deductive reasoning Why Quantum Brilliance? At Quantum Brilliance, you’ll join a team of experts working to create a massive, transformative impact globally. You’ll join a team of problem-solvers, who are curious and driven to understand and master new things. We pride ourselves on a collaborative environment, where we learn from the unique expertise that each person brings and support the growth of each team member. Quantum Brilliance’s vision to enable mass deployment of quantum accelerators will propel industries to harness edge computing applications and next-generation supercomputers. Our international partnerships extend into North America, Europe, and the Asia Pacific, working with governments, supercomputing centres, research organizations and industry leaders. If the above seems well aligned and you are looking for an opportunity to progress your career into a dynamic and fast-moving startup/scaleup venture in the Quantum Computing arena then we would love to hear from you. We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive work environment; hence we are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, colour, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status. We are aware that some individuals tend to only apply for jobs when they meet 100% of the criteria. If you think you have what it takes, but do not necessarily meet every single point on the job description, please still get in touch. We would love to have a chat and see if you could be a great fit! Please upload your documents in the English language.
