Postdoc in Quantum Sensing Technology

Technical University of Denmark, Departm

Apply for this job

Do you want to drive an experimental project in the highly topical field of quantum-enhanced Raman spectroscopy? Do you wish to use state-of-the-art squeezed light sources in close collaboration with five research institutions and companies? Then we have a great opportunity for you!   The groups of Prof. Maria Chekhova at Max-Planck Institute for the Science of Light (Erlangen, Germany) and Prof. Ulrik Andersen at the Technical University of Denmark (Lyngby, Denmark) seek an excellent, ambitious, and proactive experimentalist for a 2-year postdoc position to drive an experimental project of quantum-enhanced Raman spectroscopy. The position is funded for 2 years, the first year to be spent in Germany and the second year in Denmark.   Our motivation is to investigate biological systems in a new regime enabled by quantum technology – thereby being able to observe new biological phenomena that are invisible by conventional Raman spectroscopy. The first part of the project will be devoted to the development of a rugged and mobile non-classical source of squeezed light while in the second part, the source will be implemented in a state-of-the-art Raman microscope which will then be used for the imaging of biological samples beyond the conventional limits. We offer high flexibility in the postdoctoral position; own interesting ideas within the broader field of quantum information using a squeezed light source may be pursued.

Responsibilities and qualifications

You should have strong (and documented) experience in experimental optics and knowledge in quantum and nonlinear optics. In particular, expertise in some of the following areas is expected:

  • design and construction of quantum optical setups
  • generation of non-classical light
  • homodyne tomography,
  • electronics development,
  • theory modeling and numerical simulations,
  • Python programming.
  • Moreover, you should be highly motivated and dedicated to performing research at the highest standards and you should be willing to work in larger teams.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).
