Apply for this job

Post-doctoral position in RoHS compliant colloidal quantum dot photodetectors and image sensors

ICFO is offering a postdoctoral position to a well-qualified, highly motivated and dynamic young scientist who wishes to enhance his/her scientific career in a friendly and stimulating environment.

The successful candidate will be joining the Functional Optoelectronic Nanomaterials group led by Prof. Dr. Gerasimos Konstantatos who is looking for outstanding, creative and highly motivated researchers to develop infrared colloidal quantum dot photodetectors and image sensors based on heavy metal free and RoHS compliant nanomaterials.

The project is focused on the development of materials and devices thereof based on Pb/Hg – free colloidal quantum dots with a focus on III-V CQDs The aim of the project is to optimize the material properties as well as the device stack on a die level followed by integration of the optimum QD stack on a full image sensor in collaboration with industrial partners.

Candidates will join a highly diverse group of people from across the world and across several disciplines (chemistry, physics, material science and electrical engineering) with the aim to develop truly interdisciplinary high impact research typically published in high-impact journal publications. For more information, please see here: https://www.icfo.eu/research-group/17/sp-nanophotonic-devices/home.

Funded by the European Union.

Candidates must hold, at the time of contract initiation, an internationally-recognized Ph.D.-equivalent degree (or evidence of its completion in the nearest future) preferably in Physics, Electrical Engineering or Material Science.

The candidates should have demonstrated experience and hands-on expertise on the fabrication, characterization and optimization of optoelectronic devices for photodetection based on solution processed materials. Expertise of the above in the infrared and most preferably using colloidal quantum dot technology will be considered a plus.

We are looking for candidates with the following expertise:

  • Strong background on the physics of optoelectronic devices and proficiency in TCAD modelling of photodetectors.
  • Experience on charge transport studies, low noise techniques and optoelectronic characterization of devices.
  • Direct demonstrated expertise of the afore-mentioned features in the field of colloidal quantum dot optoelectronics, albeit not required, will be positively evaluated.
  • Experience on device fabrication and stack optimization using techniques related to solution processed materials (spincoating etc.), metallization, PVD (sputtering, Thermal evaporation) and ALD.
  • Experience on microfabrication (Photolithography, Lift-off, Etching) for patterning will be considered a plus.

ICFO is an equal opportunity employer. Candidates are selected exclusively on merit and potential on the basis of submitted application material. No restrictions related to disabilities, citizenship or gender apply to ICFO positions. ICFO abides by the principles of openness, efficiency, transparency, supportiveness, and international comparability as stated in the European Charter for Researchers and the European Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers.

Salaries for ICFO Postdoctoral positions are assigned by the Selection Committee, based on experience and seniority of the applicant, as well as the assigned tasks and responsibilities within the group. Standard salaries range from a lower level aligned with national Ramon-y-Cajal fellowships to higher levels aligned with Marie Skłodowska-Curie individual fellowships.

The contract is offered for a period of 3 years.

Additionally, a family allowance is also available on request and after corresponding approval for people with family charges in the terms described in the corresponding policy.

How to apply

Suitable candidates are requested to submit:

  • Presentation letter with a declaration of interest,
  • Curriculum Vitae, including contact details,
  • The contact e-mail of two potential referees.

Candidates will be assessed as they apply and the call will remain open until the suitable candidate is identified.

Candidates may contact jobs@icfo.eu for formal enquiries regarding the application, as well as address scientific enquiries to gerasimos.konstantatos@icfo.eu.
