Nanoscale quantum optics: contributions to Europe’s competitiveness in science and technology

In the past 4 years the COST Action MP1403 Nanoscale Quantum Optics (NQO) established and supported crosslinks between quantum science & technology, nanoscale optics & photonics and materials science. The Action has recently released a Roadmap on Research and Innovation in NQO and the associated Market Research Study.   • European quantum experts will meet in Helsinki to review the progress of quantum technologies and set future strategies

    Organised by the Finnish Presidency, Aalto University, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, the Academy of Finland, and the Quantum Flagship, the event will take place on October 17-18.Representatives from the quantum technology communities will review present accomplishments within the field as well as establish future visions and strategic goals to position the region as a leader in the field.The first day will conclude with a panel discussion on policy topics, focusing on establishing a European infrastructure on Quantum Technologies.

  • World’s first link layer protocol brings quantum internet closer to a reality

    Researchers from QuTech have achieved a world’s first in quantum internet technology. A team led by Professor Stephanie Wehner has developed a so-called link layer protocol that brings the phenomenon of ‘quantum entanglement’ from a physics experiment towards a real world quantum network. This brings closer the day when quantum internet can become a reality, delivering applications that are impossible to achieve using a ‘classical’ internet. The work was published recently at ACM SIGCOMM.
