“Europe’s future is quantum” – post by Khalil Rouhana

On October 17-18 2019, renowned representatives, experts and stakeholders within the quantum technologies field gathered in Helsinki to participate in the Exploring and Making Quantum Technology event, aimed to discuss the current landscape and future of the quantum technologies ecosystem in Europe.

Khalil Rouhana, Deputy director-general of DG Connect at the European Commission and speaker at the event, wrote a post for the Digital Single Market blog about the need of maintaining Europe as a leader in quantum technologies by building an ecosystem based on research, deployment and skills.

Among other statements made, he underlined that quantum technologies will generate a multi-billion euro market in new technological solutions for business and citizens. In that sense, he is able to perceive that there is a common European ambition and drive to steer the second quantum revolution and make the most of its transformative power for science, industry and society as a whole.

“Overall, Europe is well positioned to lead the second quantum revolution and profit from the market opportunities it will offer. Our strengths are manifold: we have excellent scientists, committed Member States, and a joint and coherent strategic research agenda, while our academia and industry are working closely together to achieve our shared bold ambitions. The time has now come to realise them!”.
