QuTech: QuTech is a mission-driven research institute run jointly by Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) and the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO). Together, we work on a radically new technology with world-changing potential, developing scalable prototypes of a quantum computer and an intrinsically safe quantum internet. We are creating the quantum future, and we believe that quantum technology will be a game changer in many social and economic sectors – including health, agriculture, climate and safety. To achieve our ambitious goals, we bring together scientists, engineers and industry in an inspiring environment, with plenty of space for ambition, entrepreneurship and innovation. Our research and engineering activities are conducted in three divisions: Quantum Computing , Quantum Internet and Qubit Research. 220 FTE and over 300 curious people work in our divisions and support teams, and we actively search and welcome many more new colleagues who share our vision and enthusiasm. This Post Doc position will be for Quantum Computing division within the Scappucci Lab group. Quantum computing division : Realizing the promise of a quantum computer requires the development of different layers of hardware and software, together referred to as the quantum computing stack. This is what we do in the Quantum Computing Division. The basis of the stack, referred to as the ‘quantum chip’, contains the qubits. We are investigating different types of approaches for this part of the stack: electron spins in quantum dots and superconducting quantum circuits. Also, we are developing the system architecture that connects and translates quantum algorithms to the low-level pulses that operate on the qubits of quantum processors. The quantum Computing Division is now looking to expand with a creative, eclectic Postdoc that has expertise in RF measurements at low-temperature. Responsibilities and Tasks : The mission of the Scappucci Lab is to develop the best materials for quantum computing. To empower quantum computing, you will uncover the requirements of materials that will enable qubits for the quantum information age of tomorrow. Specifically, your goal will be to measure and correlate the properties of qubits with the properties of the silicon-germanium materials hosting them. Our silicon and germanium-based quantum materials have been pivotal to landmark experiments in the field of quantum information. These quantum materials are also used by many researchers overseas for the development of quantum technologies. Join our team to be part of the thriving scientific community in Delft and contribute to the next step in the marathon towards a quantum computer. Requirements : - PhD in Physics - Experience in working with RF measurement - Knowing how to navigate in complex settings with many internal and external stakeholders - Being collaborative, resilient, and creative - Being able to communicate your scientific results (in writing or verbally) with clarity, effectiveness, and style. Conditions of employment : Your contract will be with Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). TU Delft is built on strong foundations. As creators of the world-famous Dutch waterworks and pioneers in biotech, TU Delft is a top international university combining science, engineering and design. It delivers world class results in education, research and innovation to address challenges in the areas of energy, climate, mobility, health and digital society. For generations, our engineers have proven to be entrepreneurial problem-solvers, both in business and in a social context. TU Delft offers 16 Bachelor’s and 32 Master’s programs to more than 23,000 students. Our scientific staff consists of 3,500 staff members and 2,800 PhD candidates. At TU Delft we embrace diversity and aim to be as inclusive as possible (see our Code of Conduct). Together, we imagine, invent and create solutions using technology to have a positive impact on a global scale. Challenge. Change. Impact! Conditions of employment : This offer contains a temporary appointment for 2 years with the possibility of extension. The UFO Profile is that of Researcher 4, and it is a 0.8 – 1 FTE Postdoc position. The full-time salary is based on VSNU-CAO Scale 10-5 . The actual salary will be based on your work-experience starting from €3548 monthly on full-time basis. Full-time means 38 working hours per week. TU Delft-QuTech offers a customizable compensation package, an attractive pension scheme, holiday allowance, a generous amount of holidays, a 13th month pay, a discount for health insurance and sport memberships, and a monthly work costs contribution. Flexible work schedules can be arranged. An International Children’s Centre offers our employees child care and an international primary school. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (VSNU-CAO). Dutch citizenship or a European working permit is required to apply. Additional information : Soft landing in the Netherlands Starting out in a new country presents quite a challenge for international applicants. Therefore the Coming to Delft Service programme will provide you support ranging from informative events to the Dual Career support for accompanying partners (wishing to continue their career in the Netherlands). Moreover on TU Delft campus there is an international day care centre and an international primary school. The international secondary school is located close to campus. Additional information For more information about this position contact Giordano Scappucci, Group Leader at the Quantum Computing Division at G.Scappucci@tudelft.nl. With questions concerning the procedure contact our Recruiter Audrey Monje at A.Monje@tudelft.nl. We aim to have the first interview rounds (via Teams) in the next couple of weeks and hope to welcome you then! QuTech values diversity in its broadest sense, including gender, culture, age, sexual orientation, ethnicity, physical and mental disability, socioeconomic background and opinion. At QuTech we explicitly subscribe our D&I policy, the Integrity Statement in the TU Delft Code of Conduct and the TNO Diversity and Inclusion Statement, and we ask all our staff and students to do the same.
