The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) is the National Metrology Institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with scientific and technical service tasks. It furthers progress and reliability in metrology for society, the economy and science.
In Department 4, we are looking for a
doctoral candidate in the field of physics
to join us as soon as possible. The position is limited to 3 years. You will be based in Hannover.
You will be working at Leibniz University Hannover in cooperation with PTB within the scope of the newly created Quantum Technologies junior research group.
The remuneration will be paid in accordance with remuneration group 13 TVöD Bund (85 %).
Quantum technology is a continuously developing research field whose first applications are emerging. In the job described here, you will design the bases for developing quantum sensors (i.e. sensors that use quantum effects in order to improve what is possible with classical physics). The technologies used for this purpose are based on solid-state single-photon emitters; the individual techniques include spectroscopy of single-photon emitters, designing quantum-photonic structures and developing and testing quantum sensors, but are not limited to this. Your tasks will comprise:
Microscopy at a single-quantum level
Designing and producing novel quantum-photonic elements
Applying the produced elements for quantum technology problems
Publishing articles in professional journals
Presenting the results at national and international conferences
You have successfully completed your university studies (German “Diplom” or master) in physics or in a comparable field
You have experimental skills
You have theoretical knowledge of optics, single-photon sources, quantum physics and photonics
You are willing and able to work in an optical laboratory
You are able to carry out scientific work independently
You have a good command of spoken and written English
You have excellent communication skills and are a team player
You are willing to go on business trips within Germany and abroad
