Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute (HHI)

Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute (HHI) is a leading research institute focusing on optical communications. It has a strong history in creating innovations and transferring them into applications used in the field of optical components and network systems.

In quantum technology, HHI covers components through systems. Examples are testbeds for fiber-optic and free-beam quantum key distribution, alternative quantum protocols e.g. based on the time-frequency uncertainty, polymer-based photonic integration of discrete quantum transceivers (EU UNIQORN), InP coherent based continuous variable quantum receivers (EU CiViQ), and avalanche photodetectors.

HHI offers its photonic integration capabilities, the polymer micro-optical bench PolyBoard and InP monolithic integration, to the outside and thus enables several 3rd parties quantum circuits.
