Learning quantum concepts with quantum cryptography
The goal of the teaching unit is to bring together the aspects of mathematics, quantum physics and their application in quantum cryptography. The interlinking should contribute to an understanding of the quantum concepts superposition, measuring process and uncertainty in a deep and natural way. Polarization is used as a suitable model system. This is useful for understanding the q-bit as smallest unit in quantum information.
Students learn that any given quantum state can be represented with respect to different bases of the vector space. The measuring process is explained and applied for generating a perfect random sequence. They learn that uncertainty is important for securing the protocol (BB84 protocol).
