Post-doctoral Researcher/Senior Post-doctoral Researcher
Modelling/Simulation of Quantum Photonic Systems
The Role
We are seeking to appoint an energetic and enthusiastic Post-doctoral Researcher or Senior Post-doctoral Researcher in Theoretical Physics to work on modelling and simulations of quantum photonic systems for quantum information processing as a part of the project “Quantum Computing in Ireland: A Software Platform for Multiple Qubit Technologies” (QCoIr) funded by Enterprise Ireland within the Disruptive Technology Innovation Fund. QCoIr which is the largest quantum computing project in Ireland is coordinated by IBM and involves a number of academic as well as industrial partners. This strategically important partnership makes Department of Theoretical Physics at Maynooth University an excellent place to pursue theoretical physics research in quantum information processing in collaboration with relevant experimental efforts as well as to explore its technological applications. In the project, Maynooth University provides theoretical physics expertise to multiple work packages which involve collaborations primarily with Tyndall National Institute, Rockley Photonics and IBM.
The successful candidate will join the group of Prof. Jiri Vala and will be working in close collaboration with the relevant experimental effort at Tyndall National Institute and Rockley Photonics. In order to facilitate this collaboration, the successful candidate may be residing at Tyndall National Institute.
Principal Duties
Principal duties involve performing modelling and simulations of quantum photonic systems for quantum information processing including a development of relevant theoretical framework and software. This includes for example devising theoretical and computational tools to determine optimal experimental photonic quantum circuit configurations and to minimize experimental imperfections towards the accomplishment of optimized and versatile photonic quantum information processing structures. A part of the effort is to be dedicated to development of a robust theoretical framework for optimal design and analysis of quantum information processing protocols in quantum photonic circuits to maximize utilization of the resources and processing performance. It is expected that this work will be carried out in a close collaboration primarily with experimental team at Tyndall National Institute and Rockley Photonics.
Terms and Conditions
This is a full time fixed term position for the initial duration of 12 months which can be extended up to the end of September 30th, 2023 contingent upon successful progress / achievement of project objectives and subject to research funding.
Post-doctoral Researcher: €38,631 per annum (with annual increments)
Senior Post-doctoral Researcher: €45,942 per annum (with annual increments)
